Author Guideline

Policies and ethics for publication are listed below. The topics for the policies and publication ethics include authorship, peer-review process, submitting original papers and plagiarism, archiving, copyright, fees, open access, duplicate publication, competing interests, publication malpractice, and conflicts of interest. All authors should be aware of and comply with the policies and ethics in publishing articles in the Journal of IEIE.

Authorship

Authors are expected to be aware of and comply with the best practice in authorship. To avoid authorship issues such as ghost or guest authorship and make the author contributions transparent, biographies of all authors must be included after the references. It is expected that all authors have made significant contributions and are aware of and obliged to follow the listed policies on this page. At least one lead contact with the corresponding author should be stated in the submitting article. The corresponding author should be responsible for the supervision of the work, approval of all contents and the submission of the paper, appropriate authorship designation of all authors, and cooperation with the journal throughout the submission, review process, and after publication. For equal contributors, you must note this on the first page of the article.

Peer-review process

All authors are obliged to participate in the peer-review process. All articles are subjected to peer-review by at least two reviewers so that the authors obtain the advice of their manuscript from reviewers’ expert. The judgments made by these reviewers are to be objective, with no conflict of interest between the reviewer pool. In cases where the author has not cited the required references of published work, reviewers may notify the author of such an issue. All articles will be treated confidentially before publication.

Submitting Original Papers and Plagiarism

The contents of the Journal of IEIE are peer-reviewed and archival. The authors must convince both peer reviewers and the editors of the scientific and technical merit of a paper. All authors should submit the manuscript containing the original content. We strictly prohibit plagiarism (reproduction of text from other articles without crediting the source) and self-plagiarism (production of a paper with the same content by the same authors). It is unethical to submit the same results to more than one journal simultaneously. However, the review article is an exception. If plagiarism is found in a paper in the review or the publication, the Steering Committee of the Journal of the IEIE will immediately investigate the case. The severe penalty will be imposed on the author(s) related to the plagiarism case based on the investigation.

Duplicate Publication

An author should not publish the same research in any other journal or primary publication. The manuscript which has not been simultaneously submitted to, nor published in any other publication channels, solely can be accepted. If the same paper is found appearing or published in any other publications, the paper will be rejected without consideration. The paper previously published in other minor publications of an abstract form, academic thesis, and preprints (i.e., conference, workshop, seminar, or proceedings) can be eligible for being reviewed and published in this transaction. However, we require that the paper be substantially revised with at least 30% new content, which has never been published in the previous publications. Although new results are not required, the revised manuscript version should include distinct-key-ideas, examples, explanations, figures, tables, elaborations, etc. The manuscript should indicate its previously published conference name and date as a footnote in the left bottom of the first page. The authors should briefly mention how the new submission offers substantial novel contributions beyond those of the previously published paper(s) or proceedings. In such cases, authors must include the details, explanation, and accessible information of such publications in the cover letter. Otherwise, the editorial members may withdraw their decision to the article due to potential issues and conflict. The decision may also apply to cases of direct/indirect duplicate/multiple publication or concurrent submission.

Competing Interests

As an integral part of the submission process, authors should declare any potential competing interests before any publication of the article. Competing interests include any financial affairs, personal relationships with other people or organizations, employment, grants for funding, and patent, that could influence the scope of their work. If you are requested to identify the funding source(s) or sponsor(s) for the research, these should be given a separate section, such as ‘Acknowledgements.’ For full official funding agencies, an abstract of the project name or grant numbers should be included. However, the funding agencies must approve these acknowledgment phrases before submission.

Publication Malpractice

An author is obliged to promptly inform the journal editorial members or publisher for any fundamental errors or inaccuracy in his/her published paper. For such errors, an author must retract or correct the mistakes and notify at least one editorial member. The Journal of IEIE will publish corrections, clarifications, retractions, and apologies when needed. In cases where the referees or readers may question the research (i.e., manipulation of data or results), or any violation of the journal policies, the editorial members will inform the corresponding author, and likely inform the institution at which the research origins, and may withdraw the article. It is required that the author should provide the editorial members with reasonable explanations that are thoroughly investigated and confirmed.

Citation Manipulation

Submitted manuscripts should not include citations to increase the number of citations to the authors’ work, or articles published in a specific journal.

Editors and Reviewers

Editors and reviewers should be excluded with a submission when they have a close personal connection to any author, share an affiliation with any author, recently have published/submitted a work with any author, have collaboration with any author, have a financial interest in the subject of the work, or are not able to be objective. The Journal of IEIE does not assign submissions to editors and reviewers having a conflict addressed above. Also, editors and reviewers must declare whether to have discussed a manuscript with its authors.

Archiving

All articles of the Journal of IEIE are archived in RISS, where the articles are indexed in Korea Citation Index (KCI) and Korea Science.
